China blocks private search engine DuckDuckGo — Tech News and Analysis

Just tweeted(September 22, 2014 at 11:56AM): “The privacy-friendly search engine DuckDuckGo has been blocked in China, company CEO Gabriel Weinberg has told Tech in Asia. Weinberg said he was unsure of when the blockade began, but Chinese censorship monitor Greatfire.org suggests it started early this month. In China, where local search operations like Baidu rule the roost, Google Search has also been blocked since May. Yahoo Search and Microsoft’s Bing are both allowed in China as they have local servers, but they have to heavily censor their results in the country. DuckDuckGo benefited from Edward Snowden’s mass surveillance revelations, as it allows people to search for things without being tracked, though the fact that it is U.S.-based worries some privacy advocates.” See here

#iOS8 iTunes Connect: new Design, new Data! | AppTweak Blog

Just tweeted(September 22, 2014 at 10:54AM): “Along with a brand new design, app previews, app bundles and TestFlight beta testing, Apple introduced new analytics metrics that will be implemented in iTunes Connect with iOS8. Not only these data will actually help developers to achieve success, they will also be completely free and very easy to use. Indeed, the services can be retrieved without SDKs, third party code nor specific integration… everything’s available on iTunes Connect directly. Also, developers won’t need to update their apps to the App Store; everything will be done automatically. How cool is that? It seems like Apple is really trying to make app developer’s life easier.” See here

Eric Newcomer – Venture Firms Fret as Y Combinator Soars | Genius

Just tweeted(September 17, 2014 at 01:39PM): “For even the most distinguished of venture capital firms, it’s now obvious that Y Combinator and other startup “accelerators” pose an existential threat. And recent moves by Y Combinator and its new boss, Sam Altman, are bound to further aggravate tensions with VCs even if the red-hot accelerate chooses not to become a direct competitor in the venture funding business.” See here

Just tweeted(September 17, 2014 at 01:13PM): “Facebook has failed repeatedly to get us to use complicated lists and privacy settings to share intimate moments with just our closest friends and family. It’s clumsy and confusing doing that with the same composer for blasting News Feed updates to everyone. But now Facebook is polishing off a new app codenamed “Moments” designed to make this micro-sharing much simpler, multiple sources tell TechCrunch, including one who has seen a live internal version of the app.” See here

'Anti-router' stops drones, cameras, and Google Glass from connecting to Wi-Fi networks | The Verge

Just tweeted(September 08, 2014 at 03:15PM): “The device is really just a tiny router the size of an old Apple Airport Express that's had its firmware customized to sniff out and block devices based on their MAC addresses. It's created by Julian Oliver, an artist living in Berlin who originally came up with a bit of code called Glasshole.sh that was designed to kick Google Glass devices from your Wi-Fi network. Apparently the idea was such a hit that Olvier decided to make a complete consumer product based on the same premise.” See here
