The Server Needs To Die To Save The Internet | TechCrunch

Just tweeted(July 24, 2014 at 03:50PM): “D o we have the Internet we deserve? There’s an argument to say that yes, we absolutely do. Given web users’ general reluctance to pay for content. We are of course, paying. Just not with cold hard cash, but with our privacy — as digital business models rely on gathering and selling intel on their users to make the money to pay (the investors who paid) for the free service.” See here

The Web never forgets: Persistent tracking mechanisms in the wild

Just tweeted(July 23, 2014 at 01:28PM): the rst large-scale studies of three advanced web tracking mechanisms | canvas ngerprinting, evercookies and use of \cookie syncing" in conjunction with evercookies. Canvas ngerprinting, a recently developed form of browser ngerprinting, has not previously been reported in the wild; our results show that over 5% of the top 100,000 websites employ it. We then present the rst automated study of evercookies and respawning and the discovery of a new evercookie vector, IndexedDB. Turning to cookie syncing, we present novel techniques for detection and analysing ID ows and we quantify the amplication of privacy-intrusive tracking practices due to cookie syncing. See here

Bitcoins Mining split #bitcoin diagram

Just tweeted(July 21, 2014 at 03:59PM): There are generally two types of articles out there describing how bitcoins are mined: the dense and technical, or the simple and vague. This article will attempt to strike a balance between the two by starting with the foundations of Bitcoin and working up. You probably know that mining creates new bitcoins, but its underlying purpose is actually to verify transactions, keep the record of those transactions up to date, and secure the bitcoin network from thieves and hackers. Apple Patents A Way For Your iPhone To Lock Out Users Whose Behavior It Doesn’t Recognize | TechCrunch

Just tweeted(July 17, 2014 at 03:06PM): “Apple has a new patent out (via AppleInsider) that describes a method for locking a device or asking a user for proof of their identity if the device detects a pattern of unusual behavior. It’s a security method that goes beyond the standard pins and passwords, letting your phone pick up on cues like your specific grammar habits, vocabulary, motion sensor information and particular gesture entry style to build a profile of who you are as a mobile device user. Any deviation from that established pattern will then prompt the phone to take action.” See here

Just tweeted(July 15, 2014 at 10:20AM): “For almost two years, Ars has advised readers to use a software-based password manager to ease the password fatigue that comes from choosing and securing dozens of hard-to-guess passcodes that are unique to each site or service. NSA targets the privacy-conscious (Seite 1)| Das Erste - Panorama - Meldungen

Just tweeted(July 04, 2014 at 02:22PM): “The investigation discloses the following: Two servers in Germany - in Berlin and Nuremberg - are under surveillance by the NSA. Merely searching the web for the privacy-enhancing software tools outlined in the XKeyscore rules causes the NSA to mark and track the IP address of the person doing the search. Not only are German privacy software users tracked, but the source code shows that privacy software users worldwide are tracked by the NSA.Among the NSA's targets is the Tor network funded primarily by the US government to aid democracy advocates in authoritarian states. The XKeyscore rules reveal that the NSA tracks all connections to a server that hosts part of an anonymous email service at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It also records details about visits to a popular internet journal for Linux operating system users called "the Linux Journal - the Original Magaz
